Evie Ladin & Keith Terry @ South Hill Cider

banjo • box • bass • body music • neo-trad kinetic folk

Innovative musicians/dancers with a quirky neo-trad soul, Oakland, California-based Evie Ladin & Keith Terry throw down original folk songs and deep interpretations of old songs, with the kinetic thrill of percussive dance.

Ladin sings and plays infectious clawhammer banjo, while Terry is a master percussionist. It was Appalachian string band music pared to the absolute minimum of accompaniment, but packed with an orchestra’s worth of rhythm.Music City Roots, Nashville

A prolific singer-songwriter, percussive dancer and square dance caller, the polyrhythmic heat of Evie’s clawhammer banjo has been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Born and raised on Southern music, from inner city Baltimore to Oakland, she has taken home ribbons at stringband contests and won awards for albums. She can write, she can sing, and she pulls back from the saccharine brink with wit – a sharp intelligence. –Grant Alden, No Depression

Trained as a jazz drummer, Keith Terry brings tonal percussion to stand-up bass, is a renowned percussionist/rhythm dancer, the founder of the International Body Music Festival, and a collaborator with a host of inventive performers from Bobby McFerrin, Tex Williams and Robin Williams, to Turtle Island Quartet, Charles “Honi” Coles and Bill Irwin. Mr. Terry in action is like visiting an anatomical carnival, where hands, feet, fingers, engage in a musical ballet. – Wall Street Journal

Evie & Keith perform for all ages, and are skilled educators, often offering workshops and in-school activities while touring, from elementary through professional level training on a host of topics.

Sophie Becraft @ First Fridays with South Hill Cider

Join us for a First Friday Celebartion with farm to table food, cider and art!

Artist Statement by Sophie Becraft

Daydreams and layers of the human experience are motifs I often reference in my work as I move through life and try to make sense of my subconscious. I’ve experimented with the layers of life that we may not see in our day-to-day reality but are constantly flowing through our physical experience. Patterns and repeating elements of nature throughout my work link the external natural environment and elements of cellular structures in the human body.

In my art, I often create unique worlds and atmospheres with the female figure as my subject. I reference narratives of human influence and mental spaces using movement and crafted environments. Finding inspiration in everything, texture, and color is critical to my process and the evolution of my work.  Leaving elements of my pieces unrefined, I seek otherworldly settings that represent how I mentally build and deconstruct environments.

The natural world continues to be an inspiration in my work and a safe space where I go to grounding myself and reflecting on the world. I approach nature with more of a feeling and the atmospheric space it creates rather than using more representational images. My work questions and explores my own experience growing up in a rapidly globalizing society. I like to do work that is visually interesting and appealing for the viewer while also having the capacity to allow people to begin to question their experience or relationship with the ideas I put forward.

Rena Guinn is a singer-songwriter at heart. Her love of folk, old-style country, rock and roll, blues, and Americana, deeply influences her songs. Her father was a musician, singer, and songwriter and raised her to be an avid listener and connoisseur of real music.

What is Raclette?

Raclette has more than one definition. Raclette is a Swiss cheese dish, a cultural landmark, the name of a cheese, a tabletop appliance, a dining experience, and a great time!

Raclette is very popular in Europe, especially in the Swiss Alps and other ski regions.

Back in the day, Swiss shepherds from the French-speaking Valais region needed to bring food up to the Alps that was relatively cheap and wouldn’t spoil easily in the hot summer months. So they brought cheese and potatoes. While the potatoes roasted in the fire, a big piece of cheese was put close to the fire. Once it started melting the cheese was taken away and scraped off the cheese onto the baked potatoes. This was not only filling and nourishing but also delicious. In French ‘to scrape’ translates to ‘racler’ and this is where the term Raclette comes from.

Young Legs is the musical moniker of queer NJ native and Newfield transplant Steven Donahue. For over a decade, they’ve released whisper-quiet bedroom folk, blown out garage rock, lo-fi curios, and hi-fi pop anthems, and almost always all on the same record. Primarily self-recorded and produced, but often welcoming collaborators into the fold, their focus on introspective lyrics within a cosmic setting evokes a wide range of emotion in their listeners. In their ample time spent not working on music, they enjoy reading sci-fi/fantasy paperbacks, playing Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and Nintendo, gardening, moongazing, staying up late, and sleeping in.

Rena Guinn at South Hill Cider

Cider by the glass, cocktails, local beer, farm-to-table food, and live music

Meet the artist:

Rena Guinn is a singer-songwriter at heart. Her love of folk, old-style country, rock and roll, blues, and Americana, deeply influences her songs. Her father was a musician, singer, and songwriter and raised her to be an avid listener and connoisseur of real music.

You will find her with her acoustic guitar and foot tambourine, singing her heart out. She has a way of sharing emotion through her voice that grabs the listener and leaves them wanting more. Her songs can be graceful and soft and also, edgy, honest, and fiery. She is not afraid to lay out the truth or be vulnerable with her life challenges and joys and share them with the audience. Her vocal range and exploration have been known to silence a bar and tug on the heartstrings. She will have you dancing, swaying, and maybe crying. In 2021 she released her debut EP, titled, 'Shine.' Recorded at Sunwood Recording in Trumansburg NY with owner and engineer, Chris Ploss. She was accompanied by many talented musicians from the Ithaca area. This EP was produced by musician and Producer, Bill Ring.
