Jessie's songs seem to be incantations leading us into collective memories of the feminine archetypes of wise woman, maiden and child. At times the older woman sings to the younger or they merge creating an atmosphere of dreams and visions. Her voice ranges from the steely country girl to Celtic woman of the highlands, with a mastery and ease of guitar playing. Throughout her lyrics, we are invited to rivers, trees, flowers, and rocks, sometimes by walking, and often by flying. One might hear the influence of jazz and blues in Jessie's songs, while others might find an operatic folk tradition from an ancient Italian village, transporting you to another time.
Lydia Garrison plays fiddle, banjo, guitar and a little Cajun Accordion. She writes songs and grew up listening to Cajun, Zydeco, Old Time, and Country music, as well as all the great music that has come out of the local Ithaca/Trumansburg music scene. The GrassRoots Festival was her Church growing up, and International musicians who played there contributed to her sense of what music is. Inspired by the African music GrassRoots brought, she did a study abroad in Mali, West Africa studying an ancestor of the banjo, the Jeli Ngoni. She has toured in the States and Internationally with The Turtle Duhks (with two members of Canadian group the Duhks), and has recorded an album with the Turtle Duhks as well as with Rosie Newton in their band Home Remedy. Currently Lydia is thrilled to be playing with three different duos: with Jessie Gray, Bear Fox, and Rosie Newton (aka Home Remedy). Lydia loves the language of music as a healing and transformative power, whether it's playing her own music or others', or listening or dancing to the powerful stuff. She believes it is a powerful energetic force we can immerse ourselves in for healing and transformation!
