Meet the band:

Freight returns to the beautiful South Hill Cider with its distinctive brand of alt. country and roots rock.   Founded by JP Payton in early 2020, Freight has risen to the fore of the region's growing Americana landscape.  With a uniqueness that has drawn comparisons to Wilco, The Grateful Dead, Dave Alvin, and other roots music heavyweights, the songs of Freight are sure to make a home deep in the hearts of their listeners. 

Led by seasoned songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and Midwest transplant, JP Payton and supported by singer-songwriter, Loveday Greene, Freight paints a moving harmonic portrait that engages audiences on an intimate level.  Backed by drummer and Knoxville native Bowman Townsend (Black Lillies), classically trained Mathisen on upright bass, and the multi-talented Jeremy Bussman on keys, Freight's groove is road-tested, danceable fun.
